| Event Name | 2nd Annual Douglas Fourth of July Race 1966 |
| Race Name | Two and a Half Mile |
| Event Location | Triangle Area, West Juneau |
| Event Description | The Douglas Fourth of July Committee's second annual two-and-a-half-mile cross country race, at 3 p.m. on Sunday 3 July 1966 - the day before the holiday. The course started at the Triangle Area in West Juneau and followed the Douglas Highway to the entrance ramp of the Douglas Small Boat Harbor. Fifty dollars to the winner and twenty-five to second. Entrants had to be sixteen or over, though fifteen-year-olds approved by John Borbridge and the committee could also run. Preregistration was urged, with books at Godkins Service, Larry's Union Service and Glacier Village, and a draw for starting positions at the gate. Recorded from the Empire's announcement; no results were published. Calling itself the second annual puts a first running in 1965, for which this archive has nothing. The course here is not the one the 1968 and 1970 reports describe, which run from the Douglas bridge to the Douglas Island Ball Park. Whether that is one route loosely described or two different courses is not something these clippings settle. |
