CBJ Juneau Marathon

The second Juneau Parks and Recreation marathon of 1972, run through driving winds and heavy rain. Guy Thibodeau won in 2:53:46, which the Empire noted was "a mere three seconds off Jack Beedle's record set in the first marathon" - the June race. Carol Hogins took the women's record with 3:31:10, undercutting Pat Watson by nearly 20 minutes, and five-year-old Kevin Strain set an age-group record. John Beedle had the fastest junior high time at 3:26:32. Thibodeau's Market provided refreshments and volunteers kept time at the checkpoints.
Three men are recorded as finishing with no time taken: Jack Beedle, John Sanchez and Mark Rosier.
The Empire's own text gives Kevin Strain 6:56:39 while its results table gives 6:59:39. The value held here is 6:56:39, which is what was already on file.
DATE AND YEAR: this event was previously dated 1971-05-15, holding Jack Beedle's 2:53:43. That is the JUNE 1972 winning time to within half a second, and his result has been moved to the June race accordingly. The Empire of 30 August 1972 reports this race as having been run "Saturday", which is 26 August.
