Magnificent Mendenhall Mudpuddle Meet University of Alaska Southeast, Auke Lake CampusDistance: 1.6 miles Location: University of Alaska Southeast, Auke Lake Campus An Empire Cup Runners Series race, sponsored by Southeast Road Runners, starting at 9 a.m. Two courses were run: 1.6 miles around the campus and ten miles around the Mendenhall Loop Road. The 1.6-mile results are held here. The ten-mile results were published in the same newspaper column, but the age-group headings and the finishing places run together in the copy available, so those results are not recorded rather than recorded wrongly. Paul Hanson won the 1.6 miles in 9:10, from Dominic Florendo and Blake Rider. The race was directed by Craig Farrington. The volunteers named by the Empire were Dave and Gail Duntley, Milton Barker, Eric Taylor, Nico Bus, Lola Foss, Lori Posey and Liz Johnson.
