Treadwell Race Virtual
Savikko Shelter
August 8th 2020 (Saturday) 6:00AM
Sun. Aug. 2 thru Sat Aug. 8, Run 10K or 10 miles on an out and back course from Sandy Beach on the Mt. Jumbo Trail and the Treadwell Ditch Trail. The following description sounds more complicated than it is. The course will be marked with chalk and whatever else we can get away with. Contact the race director with questions. Both courses start and finish on the Historic Treadwell Trail, next to Savikko Shelter No. 2 at Sandy Beach, behind the playground (photo below). This is not the Treadwell Ditch Trail, but the map below shows how you will get to the DitchTrail via the Mt. Jumbo Trail. There will be a chalk mark on the path indicating the start/finish location. The route goes along the trail for a quarter mile before you take a sharp right (photo below). Continue on to St. Anns Avenue, take the first left on Treadwell Street and the first right on Fifth Street. The Mt. Jumbo Trail head is just past the house at 319 Fifth Street (photo below). Climb steeply up the Mt. Jumbo trail. About a mile from the start you will come to a metal pipe followed by some boards (photo below). At the end of that set of boards you will come to the intersection with the Treadwell Ditch Trail. Turn right (heading north). The turn onto the ditch trail is about 1.25 miles from the start. Continue north on the Ditch trail until the turnaround for your chosen distance. The turnaround for the 10k is a quarter mile past the Crow Hill access spur and the 10 mile turnaround is a short distance past the Blueberry Hills access spur. The turnaround locations will be clearly marked. Return the way you came. (37 records)Keith Levy

Virtual race anytime Sunday, July 12 through Saturday, July 18, 2020 5k: this is a one way course - Start in front of the AOB, across from the City Museum. Run along 4th Street which turns into Calhoun Avenue, past the Governor's House, and down the hill past Cope Park and onto 12th Street. At the bottom of 12th (the building that Frenchie's Floral is in; where Blockbuster used to be), turn right onto Glacier Avenue and run past the schools to Old Glacier Hwy. and onto Channel Vista Drive towards the hospital and finish on the bike trail at a line between the corner of the Edward Jones building and the nearest light pole. 5k race participants should consider that the course is one-way. If you leave your car downtown, you should prepare to walk, run, or ride a bike back to it. JTRR wants to discourage ride-sharing in these COVID-19 times. 1 Mile: this is an out and back course. The 1 Mile course starts at the 5k finish line (on the bike trail at a line between the corner of the Edward Jones building and the nearest light pole) and proceeds toward town on the bike path. East Glacier Trail Tangle Virtual
Powerline Trailhead
June 13th 2020 (Saturday) 11:00AM
Sunday, June 7 through Saturday, June 13, 2020 1 mile runners will run an out and back. Look for a turn-around sign 1/2 mile down the trail. 4.9 milers will run along Powerline trail towards Mendenhall Glacier. Continue past the water hole, up the stairs, across the bridge, counter-clockwise around East Glacier Loop and return the way you came. Sounds easy right? Somehow someone always gets lost...but the beauty of a virtual race is you can do it all again - as many times as you need - until you get it right. Trail junctions will be marked with direction signs and small flags. Don't take the side trails that connect to Under Thunder Trail or the road...the course is always on trail. At the top of the East Glacier Loop avoid the temptation to go to the scenic outlook (you don't have a good view of the glacier there anymore anyway)...turn left at the top to head back down (a right turn will take you on the Nugget Creek Trail and you will be lost...though there is a nice 3 sided structure up there I am told). Use good judgment running down...twisted ankles and stitches are not unheard of on this course...as well as bear sightings...tourist sightings will be at a minimum this year...
