Juneau Ridge Race
| Cope Park | The race will start and finish in Cope Park, downtown Juneau. The route will take a quick loop through town by the Capitol before heading up to Basin Road and Perserverance Trail. Runners get then ascend to the summit of Mt. Juneau at mile 4 and 3500' up. From here the route traverses the spectacular Juneau Ridge for three miles and then descends into Granite Basin back onto Perserverance Trail at around mile 11. The final four miles is fast if you still have the legs and follows Perserverance back to Basin Road and return to Cope Park via The Flume. The total distance is approx. 15 miles with 5000' of total elevation gain. Finish times should generally range between 3 and 6 hours. It is not necessary to be able to run the ups in order to finish the race within 6 hours, but participants should be generally be comfortable with running on technical terrain. There will be three checkpoints along the course that will have light aid station supplies. Runners will be expected to carry a basic kit of gear for the race including a jacket, long sleeve shirt, emergency space blanket, hat, gloves, water and food. As race day approaches and we have a weather forecast there will be further communication on gear. The ascent up Mt. Juneau and the ridge will have cell phone coverage. Post race activities in Cope Park will include food featuring wood fired pizza by Forno Rosso and awards beginning at or soon after 3pm. Participation is currently limited to ages 18 and over on race day. Runners ages 16 or 17 may petition the race directors for entry.
