Description A 26 mile marathon run by Juneau Parks and Recreation, starting at Mendenhall Glacier at 5:00 AM. COURSE: competitors ran the length of the Mendenhall Loop Road twice. The half way point of each lap was at DeHart's, where refreshments were provided. Open to everyone, men and women of all ages; entrants under 19 needed a completed parental permission form, available from the Juneau Parks and Recreation office, Mount Jumbo School, and the Community Programs office at 210 Admiral Way. Entrants were told to come dressed warmly and ready to run, since no dressing rooms were available, and were supplied with track numbers. Place medals went to the top six finishers. Everyone who completed the 26 miles received an award. Coordinated by Floyd Strain. SOURCE: "Marathon Run To Be Held Saturday", Juneau Empire, 8 June 1972 - a preview. The two results held here came from elsewhere; the article published none.
