The first Seafood is Heartfood Fun Run, sponsored by the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute and put on for walkers, joggers and runners alike. 99 took part.
Al Graves was the first man home in 15:10, from Steve Rieger in 15:21 and Glenn Frick in 15:41. Mary Hakala was the first woman, 10th overall in 17:28.
The Empire timed the first fifty only, so places 51 to 99 are recorded here as names without times, and they appear at the foot of the results. Max Norvell, 19th, has no time either.\nTwo names are printed twice: Rod Mourant 33rd in 23:10 and again 48th in 28:47, and Jim Mayer 55th and 76th. One runner can hold only one result in a race, so the first of each is recorded and the second is not. Whether these are two people or one entered twice cannot be settled from the page - it is plainly a family race, with the Krons, Norvells, Mayers, Morrisons, Smetzers, Zagars, Hobbses, Danielsons, Reagles, Nelsons, Greens and four Imamuras all in the field, so a father and son sharing a name is likely enough. The paper gives no suffix.
