The ninth annual Flannigan's Run, Saturday 16 March 1991, in Douglas. Rick Thibodeau led a field of 35 in the mile and 58 over five miles. Eleven-year-old Rachel Horton set a course record for women in the mile, in 7 minutes 53 seconds. The Empire noted that otherwise the winners were off a record pace: Thibodeau's five-mile time was 27:33, and Jim Shine Jr. won the men's mile in 7:39 from his father, ninth in 9:27. Lisa Kirsch won the women's five-mile in 32:08, more than three minutes clear. Laura Lee Nelson and Melanie White tied for sixth in 37:48. Prizes were donated by Miss Scarlett's, the Nugget, Parks and Recreation and the Irish Shop. The run was the second of the 1991 Empire Cup Runners Series, after the Sweetheart Guy-Gal Relay in February. NOTES ON THE LIST. 92 of the 93 finishers are recorded here, and the paper's own two field totals are what identify the gap: the mile's 35 are all present, while the five-mile list prints 57 against a stated 58, and the women's places run 1 to 11 and then 13 to 18. The missing runner is the twelfth woman over five miles. The women's mile prints "Tiffany Peters" twice, third in 8:08 and eleventh in 10:20, with Tanna Peters twelfth and Pam Wells-Peters fourteenth. One of the two must be a different member of that family whose given name was repeated in error, and since there is no way to say which, the eleventh-place finisher is not recorded here. That leaves 34 of the mile's 35. Ann Parsons, eighteenth in the women's five-mile, is printed with no time and is held with a zero time. Several times are printed to a tenth of a second and are kept that way, because in every case they separate two runners who would otherwise appear to have tied. |
