Distance: runners choose between 5 miles and 1 mile Location: start and finish at Mount Jumbo Gym, Douglas Course: both courses loop around Sandy Beach. The five-mile continues out-and-back to a turn-around cone on Douglas Highway, just before the Douglas Bridge. Start Time: 10:00 AM. On-site registration from 9:00 AM; pre-registration closes at the end of business on the Friday. Registration Fee: 5 dollars in advance, 1 dollar for runners 13 and under; 8 dollars and 1 dollar on the day. Pre-register at the Juneau Racquet Club or the Foggy Mountain Shop. Flannigan's Run of Saturday 11 March 1995, from Mount Jumbo Gym in Douglas, with a one-mile and a five-mile course. It is the race that resumed the 1995 Empire Cup Runners Series. Both courses looped around Sandy Beach, the five-mile continuing out-and-back to a turn-around cone on Douglas Highway just before the Douglas Bridge. The race director Tom McLaughlin said conditions were excellent apart from some icy patches on the side streets around Mount Jumbo Gym. "It's too early in the season to be setting records anyway, so I'm definitely going to warn people to be cautious around the icy spots," he said. The Empire noted that the previous year's race had drawn a field of about 80. The date here comes from a correction. The Empire published the wrong one and then printed: "The date of annual Flannigan's Run was incorrectly reported in Sunday's Empire. The run is Saturday, March 11." That agrees with the Thursday preview, which says 10 a.m. Saturday, and 11 March 1995 was indeed a Saturday. The only sources found for this running are those two notices, both published before the race, so what is recorded here is what was planned rather than what happened.
